Update from Keith

Keith Savage is one of two councillors for Cote Heath ward in the south of Buxton. The Council nominated him, two years ago, to the Board of Trustees of High Peak Theatre Trust which is the charity responsible for Buxton Opera House. The Board has worked closely with the Opera House management to ensure that it will be in a position to reopen after 16 months of closure.
Keith has also been working on behalf of the Council with arts and cultural heritage organisations across the Borough towards developing an Arts Forum that will help the creative industries to collaborate and flourish.
Keith attends board meetings of Connex on behalf of the Council. Connex is a community support charity that works across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales providing services to people and families of all ages so that they can live active lives in their communities.
Keith has supported the work of Accessible Buxton – a group of volunteers campaigning and working to make the town more open to residents and visitors. Funding for portable ramps in the town centre and a Changing Places toilet are two achievements of note.
At a ward level Keith has worked closely with HPBC and DCC staff to try and arrive at a solution to the environmental and social problems associated with the Hoffman Quarry. This is a complex issue but regular meetings with other agencies – including the police and fire services – have shared information to improve responses.
Keith has supported the work of the Friends of Ferneydale Nature Reserve and Buxton Civic Association in their attempts to develop local awareness and understanding of the value of the landscape in which we live and the responsibility we all have to foster biodiversity.

About Keith

Keith Savage has lived and worked in Buxton for 30 years. He has been a Borough councillor for High Peak twice before. Before retiring from paid work Keith was a teacher and lecturer.

He believes that tremendous opportunities lay ahead for Buxton and the Borough Council must be ready to play a full part in making the most of them. Keith looks forward to working with anyone who shares that positive outlook.

Keith wants to get things done and he has shown that he can in the leading role he has taken with the Buxton Festival Fringe and Buxton Film.
